Book Review: This Thing of Ours

On a grey winter day like today, it's a book like this that warms the heart. Today I came home to lovely surprise in the mail; a copy of This Thing of Ours by Cammy Franzese courtesy of Booksneeze. The first couple chapters tell like a Cinderella story. Girl meets boy, they fall in love, they get married. It's five star restaurants and diamond rings. However, the clock struck twelve and the coach has turned back into a pumpkin, the dress back into rags. Only in this case, the charming man is revealed to be powerful boss in organized crime.
In This Thing of Ours, first-time author Cammy Franzese tells a riveting autobiography of what it's like to be married to Mafia capo and the ups and downs of their life together. It gives us insight into the world of prison visits and house raids but also of being a loving mother and of faith in God. Told in a graceful and casual tone, this book tells a story of love and perseverance and how anyone can turn over a new leaf. In this case, what I find most touching is that while they may not be the average couple, Camille and Michael's dedication to each other is utterly moving. All in all a book with a unique story to tell. 4/5
